Don’t Clutter, Be Happy

It’s fair to say that success can likely lead to happiness, but what if the clutter around you is holding you back from achieving more of it? You’d probably want to do something about it, right? Well, by taking these easy steps, you may start to de-clutter your surroundings and give way to a more happy and focused mind.

I’m sure there’s something you can tidy up right this moment, right? Maybe there’s a stack of bills that you’ve been meaning to go through or a bed you have yet to make up. Forget to dust last night or respond to those emails? Either way, when you make a plan to tackle the clutter, your mind effortlessly clears itself of the unnecessary chaos and instead fires on all cylinders. In other words, let’s get started!

First, quickly write down a 5-item to-do list. The shorter list keeps you from getting overwhelmed and may even ignite your endorphins when you check off a task.

Focus on one task at a time. Associate professor of medical psychology at Duke, Edward Suarez, Ph.D., revealed that people who multitask are more likely to have high blood pressure. So keep multitasking to the workplace and focus on one thing at a time for the sake of de-cluttering. If you are going through your bills, go through your bills. Don’t muddy the water with phone conversations or even your favorite TV show.

De-Clutter. Okay, that’s obviously the goal here, isn’t it? But it’s important to remind yourself of what you are doing with your to-do list in the first place. The whole objective is to clear off your table so to speak and take on long-term tasks by simply breaking them down bit by bit. Rid your personal space off all excess so that you can focus on obtaining more happiness once and for all.

Either way you shake it, clutter is most likely the baggage that stands between you and more happiness, so take it one task at a time and who knows, you just may see yourself smiling a bit more each day!
